★★★★★3 months agoThis museum is stunning. We decided to go there for our one big day in Bologna, since it’s from the oldest continuously-operating university in the western world. They have everything! It’s really interesting to see the evolution of the disciplines of modern sciences, and the direct influence and important of having a pope named from that city. They even had women as part of the governing staff a VERY long time ago. There are pieces made by Cassini himself, a whole exhibit about how block prints are made, a giant crocodile from the Nile, and a very large exhibit of the processes of human development and birth. The wax sculptures for medical teaching purposes are all amazing to see. My fiance and I loved it so much and it was so interesting to each of us for different reasons, that he proposed to me right outside the museum and it will forever be the story of when we got engaged. It was a beautiful and interesting place. If you go, go early! There’s a lot to see and they close right at 4:00/16:00. A lot of the descriptions are not in English, so budget in time to translate everything. Having the translator app on our phones with Italian downloaded ahead of time helped a lot. You will also need to put most of your belongings in a locker, just as an FYI. this place is super cool and they do a great job of organizing the exhibits. Even the rooms and displays themselves are breathtaking. Three major highlights for me: a medical instructor’s own arm in a jar, a giant preserved elephant intestine, and a very detailed wax replica of a woman with all of her organs for autopsy purposes.

★★★★★4 months agoInteresting museum. Bit of an eclectic collection. The wax models of foetal presentations was weird but instructive. Some fascinating huge models of 16th and 17th century warships plus a host of other exhibits from around this period.
