★★★★★2 weeks agoI went for my first visit as SNCB has just celebrated its 100th anniversary. The origins of Belgian railways date back to the 19th Century and the visit takes you from examples of the first steam trains to run on the network through to modern day trains. There is also a moving section dedicated to the sad and disgraceful fact that SNCB signed a commercial contract with the German occupiers to transport between 1942-1944 some 25,000 Jews, 350 Roma, 16,000 political prisoners and a mind-boggling 189,000 people as forced Labour. Extraordinary, and not a proud time in its history. Well done Train World for highlighting this. An interesting visit, and the sheer size of the engines is well worth the look round. Takes about 1 1/2 hours. And there's a good shop at the end of the Museum. Recommended.

When we were there, there were oddly no kids at all (maybe coz its a weekday) but still there was only a handful of adult visitors/tourists. Families with children, please slot this in your itinery when you're in Belgium or even a day trip from Netherlands. The trains display were absolutely grand. So much care is committed to preserve, upkeep and narrate the history and evolution of trains in the country. 2hrs minimum to sweep the whole area. Well done Train World!
