This boring stretch of pavement derives its historical value from having been built by revered Song dynasty poet Su Shi (蘇軾), and from its subsequent reference in many classical Chinese works. I'm not familiar with these, but still enjoyed an unforgettable evening walk watching the lanterns of Leifeng Pagoda and lights of modern Hangzhou light up against the darkening lake and sky.
