Stella Synouri
★★★★★3 months agoContrary to its name, the water tower never served as a water reservoir. It owes its name simply to its location directly in the water. The tower was built around 1290–1300 . It is therefore about 30 years older than the Chapel Bridge itself. Over the centuries, it has served as a watchtower, city treasury, torture chamber, and a gloomy prison dungeon in its lowest room. Later, it housed the city and state archives.

★★★★★6 months agoWasserturm (Water Tower) located at Lucerne Switzerland, is a prominent octagonal stone tower with the spire, which predates the nearby Chapel Bridge called Kapellbrucke or the Chapel Bridge, which is a covered wooden bridge, the oldest surviving truss bridge in the world. Even though it is called the Water Tower (because it stands in the water) it has also been a watchtower, a prison, and a treasury too. The tower was built around 1290 to 1300, which actually predates the wooden bridge. This area, which includes the Chapel Bridge and the tower, is a major tourist attraction, being a symbol of the city from the medieval times plus is the most photographed site in Switzerland.
