The sacred temple of locals. The same deity has been revered among Chinese-root fishermen across Asia. The temple is well-maintained while not being over-restored or over-modernised, just quietly protecting local lives and attracting tourists. When you donate money you’d be asked by temple staff your family name, then blessed. Kind of a warm surprise for me.

This temple was built in 1488 and is the oldest temple on the island. It was built before Macau became a city, and was built to protect seafarers. This temple has many levels and lots of steps, but it is manageable. Also, there are several security folks here to help everybody go in the correct direction, which is a big help in managing crowd flow. There are many statues and it is easy to stop and pray, as the environment is not overcrowded and is fairly quiet for having so many people when we visited. It is a place of peace and devotion, and we're fortunate to have been able to visit today. It's free to enter, and should be part of everybody's itinerary when visiting Macau.
