This museum was an unexpected highlight our trip to Madrid. It is purpose built and the exhibition has been very selectively put together so that it is far more digestible than many museums. We were on the English speaking guided tour at 10:30 that could only be reserved in person on the day of the visit. We had a wonderful guide - well paced, highly informative and really made our day. Prado v Colecciones Reales? They do different things but if I was really pressed for time in Madrid I’d prioritise the Colecciones.

Excellent museum and absolutely worth the extra ticket. This gallery complemented my visit to the Royal Palace and made the overall experience much more complete. The collection is beautifully displayed and brings history to life through armor, ceremonial objects, royal transportation, craftsmanship, and collections spanning centuries. The exhibits are elegant, modern, and very well organized. I especially enjoyed the armory section. The historic firearms collection was very interesting, and the infant armor display was something unique and memorable. The collection made the history feel much more tangible. Highly recommended.
