The Porta Nolana in Naples is an impressive and historic gate, and it could be a real highlight of the city. The architecture is beautiful, but unfortunately the surroundings are not well maintained. The area around the gate is quite dirty, with unpleasant smells and litter, which really takes away from the experience. It’s a pity, because with a bit of care and attention this place could be so much more enjoyable and worthy of its history.

Maybe it is not the best smelling one, but it is great to go to Ercolano, Pompeii etc, because it is start of the many lines and you can take seat. If you start lateralne, on Garibaldi, you will have to stand in crowds. Station is quite small so everything you need is easy to find.
