  Balm for the soul When visiting the Musée Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer, it becomes immediately clear that this is not simply a museum, but a place of great calm, depth and authenticity. This house does not merely tell the story of art, but of a period in life during which Pierre-Auguste Renoir, despite severe physical limitations, continued to work with extraordinary creative strength, sensitivity and joy of life. The estate itself is beautifully set within a generous garden of olive trees and Mediterranean plants, with open views stretching across the landscape toward the sea. The outdoor setting alone conveys a deep sense of serenity and helps one understand why Renoir chose this place as his final home and workplace. There is a palpable harmony between nature, light and silence – perfectly aligned with the spirit of his paintings. Inside the house, one encounters Renoir on a very personal level. The rooms are deliberately not over-staged, preserving the character of a lived-in home. Furniture, traces of the atelier, sculptures and paintings come together to form an authentic and coherent whole.   Very interesting museum. It was amazing to see the house where Renoir spent the last years of his life. We also liked to get to know a little more about his closest family. The garden with its enormous olive trees was fantastic 🤩 Be aware that it's closed on Tuesdays.
