  The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Shanghai and immediately stands out with its futuristic design. The series of large spheres connected by slender columns gives it a completely different look from the surrounding skyscrapers, making it feel just as much a piece of architecture as it is an observation tower. Even before going inside, walking around the base gives you a much better appreciation for its size and how it has become such an iconic part of the city's skyline. The main attraction is the observation decks, which offer sweeping 360-degree views over Shanghai, the Huangpu River, and the surrounding skyline. One of the highlights is the glass-floored skywalk, where you can look straight down at the streets below for a more thrilling experience. Whether you visit during the day or around sunset, the views constantly change as the city transitions from daylight to a skyline filled with lights. The tower is just as impressive from the outside, especially after dark when it becomes illuminated and stands out against the surrounding financial district. Walking along the nearby waterfront or viewing it from The Bund offers some of the best photo opportunities, with the tower acting as the centerpiece of Shanghai's modern skyline. Its distinctive silhouette makes it easy to recognize from almost anywhere along the river. The area around the tower is busy throughout the day, so it is worth planning ahead if you want to go to the observation deck.   The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the most iconic, sci-fi fixture of Shanghai's skyline. ​While stunning from afar on the Bund, walking right up close to the base is incredible. Standing directly underneath lets you truly appreciate its massive scale and unique architecture. ​Though I didn’t go in, the tower houses a high-altitude observatory with a glass skywalk and a revolving restaurant. ​ If you decide to head up, you can easily buy tickets right at the entrance gate. ​Even if you just marvel at it from the ground, it is a bucket-list Shanghai stop.
