★★★★★3 years agoThis was such a pleasant surprise, and it is highly recommended for your trip to the Gankeng Ancient Hakka Town. The two-storey museum features all things Hakka in wonderful detail and sensitivity. From history to food, crafts and heritage, there is detailed explanation of the Hakka people’s culture and practices. It also explains the history of this ancient town itself. The exhibits are well maintained, they are very pleasant to look at. There is a bearable amount of communist history, which really is inevitable in any museum in China, but the presentation of the history before and after the communist revolutionary years was fair and also scholarly. It certainly is not just propaganda. Unfortunately however it is only in simplified Chinese.
