Without a doubt, one of the most iconic historical landmarks of the city. Embellished by the cannon balls of the french, what's left of the city gate (and wall! most people don't realize that there's still a chunk of the original wall still standing) is worth analyzing and scrutinizing to the very last detail. I think it might still be free on Sundays and other festivities, but if not, still worth paying the small fee to go up and take in the views. It’s a great activity for kids, especially if you brush up on certain things about the towers or even make up stories to wow the little ones.

The Quart Towers built in the 15th century are one of two gates still standing in Valencia and you can visit them for a measly €2/px. You can climb the 100 or so steps to the roof for a good view of the city, but the final steps are on an unlit spiral staircase - so be careful! I don't know whether or not the towers have been restored or not, but they are in great condition. Apparently the flat and open-faced city side of the towers was deliberate, so that if the enemy got into the towers they would have been exposed and presumably killed! The desk staff at the entrance were friendly and polite, allow maybe 20-30 minutes should you choose to visit.
