★★★★★8 months agoOne of the most famous historical bridges in the Summer Palace (and even in all of China) is the Seventeen Arches Bridge (十七孔桥 - Shiqikongqiao). The bridge was built during the Qianlong Emperor's major reconstruction period (1749-1764). The subtly curved bridge (which, of course, rests on 17 arches) is 150 meters long and connects Nanhu Island to the mainland. Between the four large lions that "guard" the two railings stand a total of 544 smaller stone lions. Strolling across this bridge is a must when visiting the Summer Palace!
