“Taoranting Park is a major city park located in Xicheng District to the north of Beijing South railway station, in the southern part of the city. A former location for literati to get together, while most of Beijing's gardens were reserved only for imperial families during the Qing Dynasty, it gained its name from a poem by the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi, "Wait till the chrysanthemums are yellow and home-made wine is ripe, (I'll) drink with you and be carefree."”

“The Meridian Gate is the imposing southern entrance to Beijing's Forbidden City. It is also officially the entrance for the Palace Museum). I visited in October 2025, right in time for the site's ongoing 100th anniversary celebrations marking its establishment in 1925. One you pass the gate you can ascend the galleries to view the special exhibition "A Century of Stewardship: From the Forbidden City to the Palace Museum," which features over 200 cultural artifacts like ancient paintings, jade carvings, and bronze wares—many displayed publicly for the first time in years. The exhibition runs through the end of 2025 and highlights the site's preservation through wars and relocations. Standard opening hours for the Palace Museum in October are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:00 PM), and it's not closed on Saturdays.”

“Temple of the Sun (Ritan Park) feels much more like a local park than a tourist attraction, and it ended up being one of our best experiences in Beijing. You see many families spending time together, playing, and doing sports, which creates a really positive and relaxed atmosphere. There are also plenty of free outdoor sports facilities available. With its beautiful trees and walking paths, it’s a great place for a peaceful stroll and offers an authentic glimpse into everyday local life.”

“My wife and I visited for our wedding anniversary. Right from the start this was a wonderful dining experience. A friendly welcome at the entrance, led through a beautiful garden and into a peaceful ambient and beautifully decked restaurant. We had our own space opposite a harpist on a revolving stage. The music was delightful. Then the main event, the food. Every course was introduced and had amazing presentation throughout the meal. Most of all, every course tasted so fresh and divine. Accompanied by an excellent red wine. First time I’d had fine dining vegetarian food and was amazed at how delicious everything tasted. Thank you 🙏”

“This meal was one of the best meals we have ever had, and we still think about it now! It was our first time doing fine dining since it is normally difficult to find vegetarian. I think this is one of the few places in the world to find this .We had the comprehensive menu which came with drinks and we chose as this had a lot of variety. Stand out dishes were the wild mushroom soup, quinoa boletus wellington, Szechuan palmito mountain yam, crispy bamboo pith, truffle soup dumpling, shiitake siumai. All the desserts were delicious but the final dessert was incredible. It was a piece of art- see image. Every single item was beautifully presented and it was amazing to taste so many different flavours and ingredients. The service was impeccable. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and it was a lovely way to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you for the experience.”

Common romantic trip mistakes in Beijing
Ten traps that steal intimacy — and how to avoid them.
1. Dining at Tourist-Trap Restaurants
Avoid places like Wangfujing Snack Street, which can be overpriced and cater to tourists rather than offering authentic experiences.
2. Missing the Best Sunset Times
Plan your sunset viewing around 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM during summer months to catch the best views.
3. Staying in Party Districts
Avoid areas like Sanlitun if you're looking for a quiet and romantic atmosphere; opt for places in Dongcheng or Hutong areas instead.
4. Overbooking Popular Attractions
Be cautious about booking too many activities in one day; allow time for spontaneous romantic moments.
5. Ignoring Local Dress Codes
Dress modestly when visiting cultural sites like the Temple of Heaven to show respect and enhance your experience.
6. Neglecting to Make Restaurant Reservations
Popular restaurants like TRB Hutong can fill up quickly; make reservations at least a week in advance.
7. Overlooking Lesser-Known Parks
Don't miss hidden gems like Sanlihe Park, which offers tranquility away from the bustling tourist spots.
8. Not Considering Weather Variations
Beijing's weather can change rapidly; check forecasts and dress accordingly, especially during spring and autumn.
9. Forgetting to Bring Cash
While many places accept cards, some smaller shops and markets may only take cash, so keep some on hand.
10. Underestimating Travel Times
Be mindful of Beijing's traffic; allow extra time for travel between attractions to avoid stress.
