★★★★★a month agoWe ate here as my partner is gluten free. It was a good priced meal. We had the chicken and pork tacos, and beef nachos. Good serving of nachos and toppings. Tacos were but I have had a lot better. If you are looking for gluten free or a bite and a beer it is definitely worth checking this place out. Inside the resturant is bar/club vibe oud music which may not be for everyone. Overall very much worth considering if gluten free in Maderia.

★★★★★6 months agoWhen exploring somewhere new we make a point of checking out the beer scene. We found the Funchal taproom, tucked down a back lane. We got there early around 4.30 - they open at 3 - and it was very quiet. There was a selection of around 8 beers on tap, and we tried 4 of them. Mostly IPAs, with a good range of varieties, some very strong ones. I also had an imperial stout at 11%. A choice of small glasses at 250ml or large ones at 400. Food is limited to several Mexican dishes, with a choice of fillings. We had tacos with pulled pork and loaded nachos with refried beans. The food was very good, flavourful and well put together. The menu said 3 tacos, but we actually got 4. There are only 2 in the photo as we had sampled them. Service was very good, friendly, helpful and relaxed. I'm getting the impression that is normal in Madeira, friendly without the upselling we would expect at home. I asked for a smoky chipotle sauce with the tacos, and was advised it was very strong and we would be better with it on the side if we weren't familiar with it. By the time we left the bar was much livelier, with more customers and staff, evenings must be busier. A place to seek out for beer lovers, who are happy with Mexican food.
