With its lively atmosphere, striking architecture, and cultural significance, it’s a natural gathering spot and a favorite among both locals and visitors. At the heart of the square stands the dramatic Bartholdi Fountain, a masterpiece of bronze sculpture featuring a chariot pulled by four wild horses—designed by the same artist who created the Statue of Liberty. The fountain alone is worth the visit, offering a powerful sense of movement and expression.

★★★★★a month agoThis place was our absolute favourite to spend the evenings in Lyon. the square is very lively, lined with bars on one side. There is a huge fountain on one side and large area for kids to run around. Numerous eateries everywhere to pick your dinner. There was an artist singing songs on one of the days we visited. The atmosphere is eclectic and we surely loved it. After the sunset, the lights come up making the place look even more beautiful.
