One of the best viewpoints in Lyon. From Fourvière Hill, you get a stunning panoramic view of the city, with the Rhône and Saône rivers cutting through the old town and the modern skyline in the distance. I came here both at sunrise and sunset, and the views were equally impressive. In the morning, the soft golden light slowly reveals the city, while in the evening, the sky turns warm and vibrant before fading into beautiful purple tones as the city lights come on. It’s a peaceful spot to relax, take photos, and enjoy the atmosphere. Getting here requires a bit of uphill walking, but it’s definitely worth it. Try to visit early in the morning or around sunset for the best experience.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience booking an English language tour of the House Brochier silk museum. We had two very friendly and helpful guides who are on staff at the museum walk us through the exhibit and give us free time to wander. They were so helpful giving us insight to the history of silk weaving in Europe, in France, and the key role Lyon has played in taking this industry to its highest level. So impressive the leading role House Brochier has had in all of this. I felt like I was connecting more deeply with Lyon by getting to know more about this distinctive industry here. And very cool how you can touch almost everything. OK, not the 6,000 thread Jacquard Loom, but almost everything else! My wife and I loved it, highly recommend!

A perfect rose garden Formal enough to be impressive and casual enough to be intimate. Located in the huge Parc de la Tête d'Or, Lyon’s International Rose Garden is the largest and most elegant of three rosaries spread quite far apart. We had the good fortune of visiting in May when the roses were in peak bloom. The variety is not only in colors but also in sizes and shapes. I’ve grown roses for 50 years and had no idea some of those cultivars existed or were even possible. Visit with a loved one. It’s beautiful, educational, and romantic.

The Bartholdi Fountain is one of the most striking landmarks in Lyon and a true masterpiece of public art. Designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the same sculptor who created the Statue of Liberty, the fountain represents France driving a chariot pulled by four wild horses, symbolizing the country’s great rivers. It is not just a fountain, but a monument full of energy, history, and character. Place des Terreaux itself is just as fascinating. Created in the 17th century on the site of former fortification ditches, the square has had a long and eventful history: it was once used as a market and even as a place of public executions. Today, it is one of the liveliest and most elegant squares in Lyon, surrounded by remarkable buildings such as the Hôtel de Ville and the Museum of Fine Arts. Visiting this place means stepping into the historical heart of the city, where art, architecture, and history come together beautifully. A must-see in Lyon, especially in the evening when the atmosphere becomes even more magical.

We arrived at noon and chose a nice outdoor table at this restaurant tucked among so many with outside tables on both sides of the walkway of Rue Saint-Jean. Our server, Johann, was attentive and informative as we perused the menu. We decided on the Le Menu Lyonnais as well as a Salade Lyonnaise, along with a very nice bottle of Gigondas (one of our favorites wines back in the States). The service was prompt and the food absolutely delicious. As part of the Menu Lyonnais, my husband had the sausage in brioche with green salad as a starter and the chicken supreme with porcini mushroom sauce and homemade fries. SOO tasty!! I chose the Salade Lyonnaise, because one cannot come to Lyon without eating their famous salad. Absolutely delicious!! While the initial size seemed overwhelming, in true French fashion we took our time, and both finished everything. Le Vieux Lyon…another delicious restaurant in Lyon which came recommended by Les Frenchies! All in all, a beautiful day outdoors with a tasty meal and wine! We would highly recommend Le Vieux Lyon! PS, They have the quaintest women’s restroom but be sure to duck if you are tall!!
