Place Bellecour is one of those places that instantly makes you feel the scale and spirit of Lyon. The square is large and open, giving you a rare sense of space right in the middle of the city. The view of the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière in the distance adds a beautiful backdrop, especially around sunset when the light softens the entire square. There’s often a relaxed atmosphere here—people walking, sitting, or just enjoying the surroundings—without it ever feeling too crowded or overwhelming.

Central square of Lyon, with access to Veiux Lyon, Perrache station, Croix Rousse and buses and trams out. The city tourist office is here. Nice playground for small children
