The 228 Memorial Monument commemorates the victims of the February 28 Incident of 1947, a major event in Taiwan's modern history. For many Taiwanese, this place symbolizes both a painful chapter and the country's journey toward democracy, which gives the park a meaning that goes far beyond its beautiful scenery. Besides the monument, I enjoyed seeing the elegant pagoda, the small lake with its bridges, and the historic museum building, which was pointed out to us during the tour.
