★★★★★7 months agoThis is a beautiful museum that has collected the archeological heritage of important ancient sites all around Sicily. It’s set in a converted oratorio, so the contrast of sacred and common spaces is really interesting and palpable. The objects are explained in Italian and English, but the quality of the commentary is somewhat uneven. The majority of the objects came from Selinunte, but with a good representation from all over Sicily. Four stars only because of the staff. The place was packed full of useless, middle-aged people wearing museum badges gathered together to smoke and play with their phones. They are employed by the museum, but couldn’t answer a single question about the displays or the place itself. There were literally 15 of them gathered in one well-heated room, blocking visitors path. Why doesn’t the state pay young people with an actual interest in history or archeology to sit around instead? These folks sitting around doing nothing on the museum payroll are a shame for their country and a sign of a poorly managed museum. If they’re too ignorant to take part in the function of the place, at least give them a couple of brooms and dust rags and stop them watching TikTok videos when visitors are trying to learn and enjoy Sicilian culture.
