★★★★★2 months agoWe take bus from Fira to Oia in the morning and start to walk back around 5 pm from Oia. In general, the route is very nice, there is only a short piece of car road after the turtle rock we have to take, but there is walking section along the road. Around 7.30 pm we reach Skaros Rock, take the stairs down and enjoy the amazing sunset around 8.30 pm. Then we get back up and amazed by the view on the other side of Fira towards Oia, there are no stuff stores along the stairsway.

★★★★★2 months agoIncredible hike! Highly recommend. We did it from Fira to Oia with six children age 5 to 15. It was quite a journey and took us about 5 hours. There are three steep hills to climb—all of which are in the latter half of the hike. Total elevation gain according to my Apple Watch for the total hike was about 1150+ feet. (For reference, my husband and I are hikers and we hike weekly for exercise and consider a 750 feet elevation gain the equivalent of a solid workout—this is a greater elevation gain but we did it over a much longer period of time, so that made it feasible for all of our kids as well). Wear good shoes and bring water. There are places to stop along the way for water especially in the first half of the hike, but not so much in the last 3 miles. The views are absolutely incredible and worth the long journey. There is no other hike like this, with these views, in the world, so if you are up for the fitness level of the hike, it is absolutely worth it. Once we were in Oia, we ate a delicious meal, did some shopping, and then took the public bus back to Fira. Wonderful full day experience. (Left about 10 am and returned around 7 pm).
