National Museum of Korea (국립중앙박물관) was one of the most grounding stops in Seoul, especially after days of moving through palaces, temples, and neighbourhoods at speed. The scale hits you immediately. Long walkways, open courtyards, and water features that make the approach feel intentional rather than functional. It already sets a slower rhythm before you even step inside. Inside, the galleries are laid out in a way that encourages wandering rather than strict routing. Korean history is organised by period, but the real experience comes from drifting between sections and letting specific objects pull your attention. Goryeo celadon pieces stood out in particular, especially the glaze work that feels impossible to fully capture in photos. There’s a calmness to the entire experience that contrasts with the rest of Seoul. Even when it’s busy, it doesn’t feel rushed. People naturally slow down without needing to be told. What made it memorable was less a single exhibit and more the accumulation of detail. Buddhist artefacts, ceramics, tools, and art pieces that together build a clear sense of continuity rather than isolated highlights. It’s easy to underestimate how much time you’ll spend here. It doesn’t feel like a checklist stop. It feels like a place you settle into. If you'd like to see more from our trip, find me on TikTok & Instagram: @eunikaway ✈️
