Really amazing location to visit. It’s free for one thing! The gardens, history and architecture were so worth the time to walk and see. Weather was perfect the day I went late April. During my visit, I was fortunate enough to see the guards on horses escorting two of the house drawn imperial carriages.

Tokyo Imperial Palace is a calm and historic escape right in the middle of the city. It feels very different from the surrounding modern skyline quiet, spacious, and surrounded by beautiful greenery and traditional stone walls. The outer gardens are especially nice for a relaxed walk, with wide paths, moats, and views of the palace grounds. It’s not a place with lots of attractions or activities, but that simplicity is exactly what makes it special. You can really feel the contrast between old and modern Tokyo here, which adds to the experience. Entry to the inner grounds is limited, but even just walking around the outside is worth it for the atmosphere and scenery. A peaceful and meaningful stop if you want a break from the fast pace of the city.
